Deepa is a precious young girl who has been receiving support from Children Rescue Mission for her schooling. Deepa lives with her grandparents in Gorkha, in the western part of Nepal. She belongs to a marginalized, low-caste community. Thanks to CRM Nepal, she is now able to go school, and is a disciplined student in her class. Deepa is currently in 7th grade, and this year she achieved 50% in Math, 49% in Science and 47% in English.
Deepa’s mother died when she was three years old. Her father went to India 5 years ago to search for a job, but he never returned and no one knows what happened to him. While Deepa’s grandparents are waiting for their son’s return they are taking care of Deepa. Her grandparents were already very poor. Deepa helps them with the household chores when she can. The low-caste community that Deepa belongs to is called “Pariyar”, which is also known in Nepal as the untouchable caste.
We call children like Deepa “GOLD children”: Girl, Orphaned, Low-caste, and Destitute (GOLD). They are very vulnerable to child trafficking. Trafficked children fall into three categories: the first group is sold to brothels for prostitution, the second is sent to work in homes as domestic slaves, and the third is sold to mining companies in India. Most of the children who are sold to mining companies are orphaned, low-caste and destitute. CRM wants to make a difference by reaching out to these very poor children who have no other means of support and no other way of attending school.
Our hope and desire is to provide for the basic needs of children like Deepa, enabling them to stay home and attend school so that they will not be sold into human trafficking. With your support and prayers, CRM Nepal is “bringing the Gospel to Nepal by helping destitute children, fighting against human trafficking by providing basic needs so that children can stay at home, helping widows and orphans”. Your continued love and support helps Deepa receive the assistance she needs to develop her potential. Please pray for her.
