Suki Tamang is 12 years old and is in 7th grade. He is an average student. Sadly Suki’s mom and dad both passed away, and he now lives at his uncle’s home. Suki’s uncle was already very poor, and the family is struggling to provide for themselves. Suki dreams of being a doctor when he grows up. In his extra time Suki loves to play soccer and swim. He also loves chocolate and making new friends.
We call children like Suki “BOLD children”: Boy, Orphaned, Low-caste, Destitute. These children are very vulnerable to child trafficking; indeed, most of the children who will be sold to mining companies in India are orphaned, low-caste and destitute young boys like Suki. CRM Nepal wants to make a difference by reaching out to these very poor children who have no other means of support and no other way of attending school.
Your contribution will help to provide for the basic needs of children like Suki, enabling them to stay home and attend school so that they will not be sold into human trafficking. With your support and prayers, CRM Nepal is “bringing the Gospel to Nepal by helping destitute children, fighting against human trafficking by providing basic needs so that children can stay at home, helping widows and orphans, assisting pastors, and building churches.” Please pray for the work of CRM Nepal.
Supriya is 10 years old and is in 2nd grade. Her mom and dad are extremely poor. Last year her home was damaged by an earthquake. The government of Nepal recently released relief packages, but many families still have not received them. Supriya is receiving support from Children Rescue Mission Nepal, which allows her to attend school. In her free time Supriya loves to sing, play games and dance. Supriya said “I want to be a teacher when I grow up.” In Nepal, poor girls like Supriya are vulnerable to child trafficking.
Dhansara lives in a poor, marginalized community with her aunt and uncle. They live in a remote village in mid-western Nepal where there is very little cultivable land to support their livelihood. Dhansara is in 9th grade and attends a community school thanks to the support of CRM. She has obtained a B in Math, a B in science and a B+ in English. She is an average student in her class and is disciplined in her studies. Dhansara helps her aunt with the household chores. “Thank you for giving me an opportunity to go to school. I hope to one day complete all my studies and become financially independent,” said Dhansara. Your continued love and support will help Dhansara to receive the assistance she needs to develop her potential. Dhansara lives with her maternal uncle’s family. Her father used to abuse her mother every day. Later on her mother left her father and married another man from the village. For the past five years Dhansara has been staying with her uncle. Her uncle is very poor and it is difficult for him to continue sending Dhansara to the community school. The trafficking of young girls to India for the purpose of prostitution is probably the busiest ‘slave trade’ of its kind anywhere in the world. Trafficking has become a highly profitable business and is often protected by high-profile politicians. Lack of education and extreme poverty only make this problem worse, leading parents to sell their daughters, and husbands to sell their young and unwanted wives, for as little as US$200 to US$600. Organizers in rural areas, brokers, and even family members sell girls to make a profit. These poor girls - and sometimes boys - are used, abused and then discarded like rubbish when they are no longer healthy or profitable. Many get sick. Many die. Most are never heard from again.
Avilasha lives with her grandparents in Gorkha, in the western part of Nepal. Sadly, her mother abandoned her. She belongs to a low-caste, marginalized community, and the family does not have enough land to support themselves. With the support of CRM Nepal, Avilasha now has the opportunity to go school. She is currently in 6th grade and is an average student, receiving 47% in Math, 58% in Science and 48% in English. She is disciplined in her studies and is also helpful around the house, aiding her grandparents with the household chores. In her free time Avilasha likes to play with her friends. Why doesn’t CRM Nepal open an orphanage? A friend of our ministry once asked why we did not open an orphanage for abandoned girls like Avilasha. The answer is that we want children to stay with their next of kin: either with uncles, aunts, and grandparents, or in other family member’s homes. This way, they will still be raised in a family environment and will lead more normal lives, hopefully retaining their family connection when they grow up. In addition, opening an orphanage would require a big building, staff, administration and overhead expenses which could be better spent by supporting children. Many of the children that CRM Nepal supports live with family members; it is like placing them in a foster family home. Our hope and desire is to provide for the basic needs of children like Avilasha, enabling them to stay home and attend school so that they will not be sold into human trafficking. With your support and prayers, CRM Nepal is “bringing the Gospel to Nepal by helping destitute children, fighting against human trafficking by providing basic needs so that children can stay at home, helping widows and orphans". We refer to children like Avilasha as ‘GOLD’ children: Girl, Orphaned, Low-caste, Destitute. GOLD children are more likely to be trafficked to brothels and sold into domestic slave labor. Help us stop this cycle of trafficking and slavery. Your continued love and support helps Avilasha receive the assistance she needs to develop her potential. Please pray for her.
Asmita is in 8th grade. She lives with her grandparents in the remote village of Chhoprak, Gorkha. She is an average student, achieving 68 in English and 42 in Social Studies. Sadly, when Asmita was four years old, her mother fled with another man and her father married her current stepmother. Asmita’s dad is now living in India and she has not heard from him for many years. Asmita’s grandparents try their best, but they are very poor. They are thankful to CRM Nepal for giving their granddaughter an opportunity to attend school. When Asmita grows up, she wants to serve the Lord. Asmita is considered low caste. We refer to children like her as “GOLD” children: Girl, Orphaned, Low-caste, Destitute. These children are at great risk of being trafficked. Our heart and desire is to save young girls like Asmita. Each year, thousands of young children are sold from Nepal to India. We don’t want Asmita to be one of them. As you read this, please pray that Asmita will become educated and will one day be able to support herself and her grandparents. Sponsorship provides a child like Asmita with a life-changing opportunity, and costs just Rs.1500 a month. Your contribution provides for the basic needs of young and at-risk children, enabling them to stay home and attend school to avoid being sold into human trafficking. CRM Nepal helping destitute children, widows, and orphans, and by fighting against human trafficking.
Deepa is a precious young girl who has been receiving support from Children Rescue Mission for her schooling. Deepa lives with her grandparents in Gorkha, in the western part of Nepal. She belongs to a marginalized, low-caste community. Thanks to CRM Nepal, she is now able to go school, and is a disciplined student in her class. Deepa is currently in 7th grade, and this year she achieved 50% in Math, 49% in Science and 47% in English. Deepa’s mother died when she was three years old. Her father went to India 5 years ago to search for a job, but he never returned and no one knows what happened to him. While Deepa’s grandparents are waiting for their son’s return they are taking care of Deepa. Her grandparents were already very poor. Deepa helps them with the household chores when she can. The low-caste community that Deepa belongs to is called “Pariyar”, which is also known in Nepal as the untouchable caste. We call children like Deepa “GOLD children”: Girl, Orphaned, Low-caste, and Destitute (GOLD). They are very vulnerable to child trafficking. Trafficked children fall into three categories: the first group is sold to brothels for prostitution, the second is sent to work in homes as domestic slaves, and the third is sold to mining companies in India. Most of the children who are sold to mining companies are orphaned, low-caste and destitute. CRM wants to make a difference by reaching out to these very poor children who have no other means of support and no other way of attending school. Our hope and desire is to provide for the basic needs of children like Deepa, enabling them to stay home and attend school so that they will not be sold into human trafficking. With your support and prayers, CRM Nepal is “bringing the Gospel to Nepal by helping destitute children, fighting against human trafficking by providing basic needs so that children can stay at home, helping widows and orphans". Your continued love and support helps Deepa receive the assistance she needs to develop her potential. Please pray for her.
